Marsh Green is a primary school within the Borough of Wigan and currently there are 368 pupils on roll.  The school is extending from a single form entry to a double form entry. We currently have two Reception classes, two Year 1 classes and two Year 2 classes. From September we will have two Year 3 classes and this will continue until we are full by 2022. We also have two Nurseries and take children from 2 years old. The percentage of children entitled to free school meals is well above the National average. The school was last inspected in September 2017 and was described as ‘Good’ in all areas. Our 2018 results were extremely positive and we received a letter from the DfE stating we were in the top 3% of schools nationally in terms of the progress our pupils made from KS1 to KS2
                                                                                                                                                   
We have a strong nurturing ethos and were awarded the Nurturing Schools Award in July 2017. We have an extensive Nurture provision which helps meet the needs of our most vulnerable pupils. We have been accredited by the NurtureUK and provide training across the region in this area. We believe that if we can meet the most fundamental needs of our pupils first, they are then able to achieve their potential.

Many children take part in the wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer and we are proud of our links with parents.

The Chair of Governors is very active in supporting the children and staff and, along with other Governors, is a regular visitor to school. We also have an active School Council enabling children to have their say in their school.

Marsh Green is a school at the heart of its community and we work hard to makes sure it remains there.
